It’s a concept that we can take for granted. We order simple and grand items from an online global marketplace and have them delivered overnight to our front doors. We move products and goods via trucks, trains, and ships globally via a vast, nuanced, and complicated network. But there is nothing simple about freight logistics; scheduling, safety, appropriate documentation, labelling, and security are all complicated, and ever-evolving components to freight logistics where meticulous vigilance to each are the keys to on-time, safe, and secure delivery of people and product to their intended destination regionally, nationally or globally. When it comes to the freight logistics of your precious metal bearing scrap and waste, failure of any piece can lead to storage issues, environmental incidents, material being held at warehouses or customs, and loss of valuable material.
Metallix takes the notion of meticulous vigilance to another level in everything we do, and freight logistics is no exception. Our team of freight logistic professionals, Susan Van Valkenburgh and Yamilet Machado, have decades of knowledge and experience in arranging the logistical transportation of both non-hazardous and hazardous precious metal bearing scrap and waste. Both go through annual DOT training, which in part trains them to use the segregation table to eliminate the possibility of incompatible materials shipping together. They contact and arrange transport via either our own fleet of modern and safe trucks or one of our audited trusted transportation partners and ensure it is being shipped in DOT approved shipping containers. They complete all customs paperwork, land bans, manifests, certificates of origin, commercial invoices, shipping labels, etc. with the appropriate and correct material types, waste codes, and other needed information to ensure the safe, smooth, and following RCRA and DOT guidelines.
We are proud of our logistics team who regularly receive the highest praise and accolades from our Suppliers for handling all aspects of the transportation of precious metal scrap for them. Let’s meet our team…
SUSAN VAN VALKENBURGH

Sue’s name is one of instant recognition for our Suppliers, not only because of her regular communication regarding the transportation, acknowledgement, and payment for all shipments, but because she is the longest current tenured employee of Metallix at 29 years.
Sue grew up in the quaint local hamlet of Spotswood and after high school studied business at Katherine Gibbs and Stuart Schools of Business and was hired by Metallix shortly thereafter. Sue is our Logistics Manager and is an encyclopedia of transportation knowledge, who makes the complex transportation of scrap (particularly hazardous waste), seamless to our Suppliers.
Sue’s family life revolves around her husband Bob and collegiate student/athlete son Trevor, who is a volleyball player with Sue and Bob as his biggest cheerleaders. They enjoy going to the beach, walking, biking, watching movies, and family vacations together. They regularly vacation in the Lake George region of Upstate New York with their extended family and recently went on a family trip to a resort in the Dominican Republic.
